Dear mom: I don’t know how to tell you how important you are to me. You’ve always been there by my side, loving me and supporting me. You make me feel unique and special. This is why I want to thank you today.
I know that we aren’t as close as we once were. When I was smaller we always had time for each other. I remember how we played together and how we laughed and did so many fun things. Sometimes we went to the movies or shopping, or just for a walk.
I didn’t care what we were doing, as long as we were together. Every moment that I spent with you was one that I wanted to last forever.
It didn’t matter if it was cold or raining. You always knew how to find the silver lining under every cloud.
You taught me to be positive and not to give up in the face of setbacks, even when all I wanted was to hide from my problems. You always told me that we need to be brave in life.
My beloved mom, I wish there were more people in the world like you. People who help others without expecting anything in return, out of the simple desire to do good.
In this world that is corrupted by war and hatred, you are a light in the darkness.
Dear mom, thanks for getting angry
I remember each and every one of our arguments. These aren’t moments that I look back on happily. But in a way, I treasure them just as I do the good memories. Over time, they’ve turned into valuable lessons that have helped me mature.
I would never have thought that I’d be able to get something positive out of the times we argued and shouted.
I never realized that the tears and anger were for my own good, and that I would be eternally grateful for them. If you hadn’t been there to correct me, I would never have learned to do the right thing.
You’ve always been the first to offer advice and explain when I’ve done something wrong. Many mothers wouldn’t have had your cool head when I tested your patience. I’m so sorry for all the times that I lashed out and treated you unfairly.
The bond between us is too strong to be destroyed. It doesn’t matter what has happened. I know that you’ll always be there for me when I need you. What we feel is so intimate and lovely that nothing could ever come between us.
I need you in my future, and also in my present
When I was just a girl, I thought that when I was older I would no longer need you. I imagined myself as a strong, secure adult, with no need for your protection. You don’t know how wrong I was.
You can’t imagine how much time I’ve spent thinking about you and missing you. Looking back on my childhood, when I felt safe with you by my side.
I’ve reached the conclusion that however old I get, I’ll always need my mom. A wise voice to guide me, a confidant for my deepest secrets. You’re the only person in the world that I trust blindly.
Even when it’s my turn to form a family of my own, I know that you’ll be the person I can rely on. Our relationship isn’t something that can easily be replaced.
I feel so lucky to have you. With a single glance, we each know what the other is thinking, and that is something rare and wonderful.
I know that some people haven’t had the same luck as me. Unfortunately, there are toxic parents, who treat their children badly and make them feel miserable. I would like to be able to share a little of you with these people, for them to know what it is to be loved unreservedly.
Sometimes I feel afraid of not being able to do this as well as you did. What if I’m not able to give my children the same affection that you always gave me? You would tell me that I am being silly, but I have a lot to live up to.
With all of this in mind, dear mom, I want you to come on this journey with me. I want us to make time for each other again, to chat and give each other advice.
I understand how lucky I am to have you in my life, and I want to take full advantage of my good fortune. Thank you for always being there for me.
I love you mom.
