It can’t hurt to put the following tips into practice to improve your child’s study space. After all, the main purpose of this activity is to benefit your child’s learning and education. So, why not give it a try?

Try to put these tips into practice, we assure you that it won’t be a waste of time.

Good lighting and the use of certain colors in a room’s walls can promote concentration and tranquility. Another useful tip is to have only the necessary amount of furniture in the “study room.”

Of course, it’s essential for the study area to have a good desk which is both clean and organized as well as a comfortable chair that is preferably ergonomic.

Believe it or not, an unfit work environment can translate into getting low grades and having to spend more hours studying without retaining the necessary information. On the other hand, a good study space promotes productivity and efficiency.

There are many methods that claim to optimize learning. However, according to specialists, an adequate study environment is also an important factor.

Play close attention, below we’re going to share with you a few tips that can help you create a great study space. Your child will be more than grateful.

5 tips to improve your child’s study space

Good lighting

Adequate lighting is essential for studyingLighting isn’t only important because it promotes concentration, it also makes children feel comfortable and it takes strain off their eyesight. Keep in mind that one of the problems that can affect a child’s academic performance is poor eyesight.

That’s why you should try to provide adequate lighting to improve your child’s study space. Ideally, the space should have a natural light source. If that isn’t possible, there should be at least two focal points of light emanation. This could be from the ceiling and with the use of a desk lamp.

Orange lighting tones are never recommended for a study space because they promote fatigue. Ideally, the light sources should have bulbs that don’t exceed 60 watts and they should emit a clear white light.

Furniture

Less is more when it comes to furnishing children’s study areas. Their desk shouldn’t have more than a computer or laptop, notebooks, or books on the subject that they’re going to study, nothing more. Cellphones, tablets and toys that distract them shouldn’t be in close proximity.

If your children’s study space is inside their room, place the desk in the opposite direction of where they have all of their toys so that they don’t make eye contact with them.

Use colors on the wall that don’t cause distraction

Pastel blue and green are both colors that induce states of well-being and  concentration. You can alternate them with the traditional white which gives a visual effect of making spaces look bigger than they actually are. Beige, cream and pastel colors are all recommended as colors that promote concentration.

Having their own desk or table

Children sometimes do their homework on the dining room table, on the floor or on the bed – this is completely contraindicated. Children should have a space that fits their physical measurements, allowing them to be comfortable while they study.

Their desk should be placed in a room that is well-lit and the child shouldn’t be allowed to use it to eat or to perform other activities that aren’t related to studying. This will help the child’s mind adopt the desk as a special place for learning.

5 Tips to Improve Your Child’s Study Space

Provide them with an ergonomic chair

Having an ergonomic chair is as or more important than having a pencil or a notebook to study. Most adults don’t realize that if their child’s studying chair is inadequate, the child will be constantly restless trying to find suitable positions while losing concentration on what he or she is studying.

The use of inadequate chairs is so serious in fact that some people claim that sitting for prolonged periods of time is alike to the “new smoking.” Inadequate chairs also promote bad posture.

Ergonomic chairs will allow your children to maintain a straight back which promotes alertness and concentration. The children’s feet should touch the floor and their elbows should rest on the table at a 90-degree angle. These chairs won’t only help your children concentrate, they’ll also prevent bad posture which could cause injuries.

In addition to the aforementioned tips to improve your child’s study space, it’s also important to keep the space well-ventilated and clean.
