During summer vacation, there’s time for everything. However, on many occasions, your children don’t know what to do and they start telling you that they’re bored. To eradicate boredom and have fun as a family, today we decided to share a series of original children’s crafts with ice cream sticks.

During the summer, both children and adults eat a lot of ice cream. Thus, it won’t be hard for you to get a hand on these sticks. Alternatively, if you don’t have enough, you can buy them directly in packages.

5 children’s crafts with ice cream sticks

1. Superheroes

Children love superheroes. Thus, they won’t hesitate for a moment to create completely personalized superheroes. For this craft, you’ll need:

  • As many ice cream sticks as superheroes you want to make.
  • Colored sheets (you can also choose white ones and paint them yourself).
  • Paint.
  • Glue.

With these simple materials, you can now make the best superheroes ever.

The ice cream stick will be the body of the superhero, while one of the ends will be the head. On a sheet of the color you want, cut out a small rectangle as a mask for the superhero and, on a blank one, create eyes to glue them on the mask. When you have all these elements, glue them to the end of the stick.

The superhero’s head is ready. Now all you need to do is cut out a triangle cape so that the superhero can fly and glue it to the back, just below the mask. Ready to save the world!

2. Bookmarks

Many children like to read during summer vacation. Thus, making their own bookmarks will seem like a great idea. You’ll need these materials:

  • As many ice cream sticks as bookmarks you want to make.
  • Colored construction paper.
  • Scissors.
  • Glue.
  • Paint.

The first thing children should choose is the shape they want to place at the end of their bookmarks, as this is what they’ll see once they close the book. A flower, an animal’s head, a means of transportation… There are thousands of options to choose from!

Once they choose, they only have to draw the chosen shape in colored sheets or on a white sheet they can paint themselves. Then, glue the shape to the end of the ice cream stick. If you want your bookmarks to be more colorful, you can paint the ice cream stick according to the colors used for the shape.

3. A boat, one of the children’s crafts with ice cream sticks that they’ll love

Due to their different shapes, sizes, and the noises they make while they’re moving, means of transport attract children’s attention. For this reason, we encourage you to make a boat with them that they’ll surely use later on for other games. For this children’s craft, you’ll need:

  • A lot of ice cream sticks.
  • Glue.
  • Cardboard or fabric to make the boat’s sail.

Unlike the children’s crafts with ice cream sticks that we explained above, for this, you’ll need many ice cream sticks. Firstly, make the base of the boat with a minimum of 20 sticks. However, you might need more, depending on the size of the boat you want to make.

Place the ice cream sticks in a row. 10 should go on top in a vertical position, while the other 10 should be glued in a horizontal position, thus creating a stable base.

Once you finish the base, you’ll need two more sticks, which will hold the sail. Vertically glue these sticks to the base one after the other, as if they were one. You’ll have to break a fragment of the stick to be able to fasten it to the base and, thus, have support.

Finally, all you have to do is make the sail. You can make it out of fabric to make the boat look more real or, on the contrary, make it out of cardboard.

4. Animal puppets

Children love animals. Therefore, they’ll love having an animal puppet collection. For this, you’ll need:

  • Ice cream sticks.
  • EVA foam sheets.
  • Scissors.
  • Glue.

The ice cream sticks will be the support of the heads of the different animals. Let your imagination run wild by making different animal heads with EVA foam sheets. This material is easy to manage and is resistant enough.

If you can’t make them with EVA foam sheets, you can also make them out of construction paper or cardboard. Your children will love them either way!

5. Picture frames

To create a personalized picture frame, you’ll only need several ice cream sticks. If you want, you can make a quick craft by placing four sticks in the shape of a square and gluing their corners together.

However, we advise you to place two or three layers of sticks glued one over another in each corner. In addition, you can paint these sticks to give your frame a more fun and colorful touch or make a set of frames and hang them on the wall one below the other.
