What Should a Good Study Space Look Like?
It’s good for kids and teens to know different study techniques to concentrate and do well in school. However, it’s also important for them to have a good study space at home.
This place can be in their bedroom or in the office, etc. All you need to do is make sure it meets certain characteristics so they can stay focused while they study and do homework.
What should a good study space look like?
One important characteristic of a good study space is that it should always be the same. We recommend providing them with a fixed space to do their schoolwork.
A good study space should also have a certain kind of environment. For example, some things to consider include:
- Noise
- Organization
- Lighting
- Ventilation and temperature
- Furniture
Next, we’ll explain more about these conditions.
Noise
Noise definitely distracts kids while they study. Also, hearing certain sounds, especially if they’re annoying, can cause kids to lose focus. In addition, we recommend that people nearby respect their academic responsibilities and don’t interrupt them.
Organization
A good study space must always be organized and clean. This way, kids can find the materials they need easily. Therefore, they’re efficient and productive while working. Keeping the area clean is also helpful to stay physically healthy.
Lighting in a good study space
A good study space needs to have good lighting so it’s easy to see. Therefore, choose a spot where there’s lots of natural light. However, if this isn’t possible, get a nice table lamp. Preferably, it should be white light and shouldn’t be higher than 60 watts.
Ventilation and temperature
To concentrate while studying, it’s important to be in a properly ventilated area with a nice temperature. In fact, heat makes you feel drowsy, fatigued, tired, etc. On the other hand, the cold can cause respiratory illnesses, make it hard to focus, etc.
For this reason, we recommend getting fresh air in the room every so often. You can do this by opening the door or window. Also, don’t let the temperature get too high.
Furniture in a good study space
As for the furniture in a good study space, there are two objects you can’t forget:
- A desk or table that’s the right size for the student. Also, make sure it’s big enough to hold whatever it needs to.
- A good chair so they can sit up straight. In addition, it needs to move easily and have enough back support. Also, it’s best if you can adjust the height and backrest. In fact, it’s best if it’s a little curved so it supports the lower back too.
It’s important for there to be a table and chair because then, the student can maintain good posture. This is good for both the eyes and to prevent certain injuries.
Therefore, the best way to sit is with your back and legs straight, your feet on the floor and your head slightly inclined. Also, your head should be about one foot from the desk. If it tilts about 20 degrees, it’s easier to read.
Finally, we recommend having a shelf nearby to organize books, notebooks, notes, etc. That way, it’s easy to access them or look up information.
