Pregnancy always affects women and causes various physical changes, but it can effect in their personality too. Due to hormonal changes caused by pregnancy, many women suffer from sudden mood swings.

Pregnancy is a sort of major upheaval for the body of any woman. Some mothers. especially first-timers, feel overwhelmed with their emotions.

Crying At Any Moment

Many pregnant women suddenly start crying for unbelievable reasons. Any setback, regardless of whether it seems ridiculous or  unusual to us, can be greatly upsetting. For example, it could be as simple as forgetting to salt a dish, or even a reaction to some movie they’re watching on TV.

Not being able to eat a meal due to being pregnant or not having a certain food in the house could cause a lot of drama. The same goes for anything that goes wrong at any given moment, whether it’s something silly, or a more important issue.

Partners, friends and family members must always have a lot of patience. They have no choice but to stoically withstand their loved one’s mood swings. If they don’t listen to her problems, she could feel misunderstood. With love and patience, rest assured that these emotional changes will pass.

The first trimester of the pregnancy is usually accompanied by constant physical discomfort that can impact a woman’s state of mind. Fears, doubts and an uncontrollable urge to cry begin to emerge. Pregnant women are more sensitive and this impacts everything around them.

It is very important for pregnant women that those around them understand their situation. Partners, friends and family members should practice patience and compassion. They should also trust in their gynecologist and family physician in order to dispel any doubts and fears that arise during the pregnancy.

If a pregnant woman’s state of mind is concerning and seriously affecting her daily life, they should always seek physiological help from their doctor to avoid it turning into depression. Do not hesitate and consult with your family physician before it becomes a significant problem.

Fear and Pregnancy

Many women spend a large part of their pregnancy dealing with major fears. Above all, they worry about delivery going well. This constant state of fear can create a stressful and anxious situation. Future mothers worry about whether their baby will be born healthy, and also about the possibility of not being able to breastfeed their infant. Sometimes they stress about having difficulties readjusting to their job after their maternity leave, or about not getting their figure back.

Sometimes pregnant women are too affected by what other mothers or grandparents say about their pregnancy or childbirth. Don’t worry about the experiences of others, because there is no reason to assume a similar thing could happen with you. Same goes for what you read in magazines or online. Every pregnancy and birth is different.

Minor Forgetfulness

Many pregnant women may also suffer from “momnesia” which consists in frequent memory loss. This problem can occur starting in the 26th week of pregnancy, all the way to the child’s first year of life. It usually involves the frequent forgetting of tasks, information or day to day experiences. For example, we might forget our keys, or where we were yesterday afternoon.

According to various scientific studies, this forgetfulness is due to high levels of hormones such as prolactin, estradiol, progesterone and cortisol. With birth and and breastfeeding oxytocin comes into play, which is involved with the connection between the mother and baby. It also increases with lack of sleep during pregnancy and the baby’s first months.

According to specialists, the mother puts so much of her attention into her baby that she forgets what is not considered a priority. Mothers never forget to care for their baby at all times, nor do they forget their many needs such as feeding or medication. But on occasion, little things such as watering the plants or calling a friend on their birthday are forgotten.

Constant mood swings and minor forgetfulness are normal for many pregnant women and first-time mothers. Don’t give it too much thought and try to enjoy every moment of your pregnancy. These moments are magical and won’t happen again.
