Everyone has different abilities, some more developed than others. You start to demonstrate your skills from an early age, then use them to be useful in your environment and community. Therefore, you can help your children discover their talents as soon as they’re born.
How can I help my children discover their talents?
These special abilities can be found in three fundamental branches: intellectual, emotional, and motor. Kids demonstrate what they can do in each section according to their growth and development. Then, it’s up to the adults in their lives to identify them.
The first step to help children discover their talents is for parents to identify what they’re capable of doing. Additionally, they notice what their children’s main strengths and weaknesses are as they watch them grow up.
Watching what your children do will help you identify their skills, and will also show you what path they could follow based on what they like.
When can I start helping my children discover their talents?
From very early on, practically from the moment they’re born until they’re three years old, kids go through a process where they develop their skills.
Many parents force their children to do certain activities that they think is best. On the contrary, this doesn’t give kids the space to figure out how to do things on their own.
There is nothing wrong in carefully guiding your children, but you need to let them develop with enough freedom in their environment. They need to learn to fend for themselves, carefully, in certain circumstances.
For example, if your child is three years old and doesn’t hold a pencil well, remember that he’s still working on his fine motor skills. Don’t force your child. On the other hand, you need to be patient to teach him how to do it correctly.
Help your children discover their talents as soon as they take their first steps. At the same time, it reinforces their skills in all three areas we mentioned without forcing them. Later, in preschool – between ages three and five – they’ll develop their skills even more.
Find their true skills
After going through the process of choosing some activities, parents need to be observant and see if their children like the activities and watch if they can actually do them. This is the change to see if your children have good motor skills, are ready to read and learn, or if they like to explore and discover.
To be sure that they’re good activities that children actually like, you need to wait and watch what happens. This can take up to three months, at least, or even up to a year. After this period, you can evaluate their performance and see if they really like the activities.
By the time they’re about seven years old, kids have the abilities to decide which activities they really want to do and which ones they don’t.
It’s important for them to do what they want to do so they can enjoy their talents to the fullest. This way, they won’t feel frustrated from having to do things they don’t like.
