The Coming of New Life: A Mother’s Love for Her Unborn Child

“I was overjoyed when I felt new life moving inside me,” claim those who have had this unique and unrepeatable experience.

Every mother overflows with joy when she hears the beating of her developing baby’s heart for the first time. The first time she feels the subtle fluttering movements of the fetus in her womb, it is like a sweet caress to the soul.

After long hours of arduous labor, a mother is able to convert all of the physical pain and agony she has just experienced into the most unconditional love.

However, anyone who says that a mother’s love begins when she holds her baby in her arms for the first time is greatly mistaken.

Motherhood, love at first kick

A mother’s love and joy, without a doubt, is born the moment that she begins to comprehend that her body has become a source of life.

Her womb has turned into a cradleHer breasts – now warm and more prominent – will soon be the greatest source of nutrition and a pathway to connect with her newborn baby.

The Coming of New Life

A women knows she is a mother during her first ultrasound. She can’t hold back the tears of emotion upon hearing her child’s heart beating rapidly. Her heart beats just as rapidly, overwhelmed with joy by this first contact with her unborn baby.

The mother’s joy continues to grow when she begins to feel those small and subtle kicks in her womb. They remind her that never again in her life will she be alone.

It is then that she discovers the truth: The miracle of life is occurring right then and there, inside her own womb.

Motherhood begins when a mother discovers that the plan for her life isn’t to be perfect. Rather, it is to be happy.

And she discovers that true and absolute happiness can only be reached when we share it with those we love – with her partner, and with this little being that is growing inside her.

Connecting with this new life

Without a doubt, many women struggle to fathom how such a strong connection can come to be. But any woman that has experienced pregnancy understands that a unique and special bond forms the moment we discover that we are going to be mothers.

The anxious mother dreams of the day when she will be able to hold her little sunshine in her arms for the first time. She knows they are connected for life. Each ultrasound, each little movement, becomes a milestone in the mother’s life.

The Coming of New Life

However, the mother knows very well that she has a long wait ahead of her.

For the next nine months, she will have to settle for fuzzy ultrasound images on a black-and-white screen before she can see her son or daughter face to face and discover the color of her skin, hair and eyes.

She will also have to cherish every kick, growing more intense every day, until she can caress her baby’s delicate skin with her own two hands.

During pregnancy, a woman begins to feel an overpowering need to connect with the life that beats within her body. For that reason, when she is resting, she will seek to connect.

As if instinctively, she will begin caressing her belly. The circular movements of her hands are like a calm and loving conversation with her child – a sort of lullaby.

Dear mother, if you identify with what you are reading here, rest assured, the urges you feel are healthy, and not without purpose.

Several scientific investigations have proven the positive effects of prenatal contact between mothers and their unborn babies.

Even reading stories out loud or playing music during pregnancy is surprisingly beneficial for the little one’s development.

And the day comes when life will divide…

The moment has arrived. New life decides to show its face more than ever. Your water breaks and you begin to feel the sweetest pain – the pain that announces the coming of your child into this world.

It’s time to be strong, for yourself and, most of all, for your baby. The deepest love imaginable, the one you have been anxiously awaiting for so long, is about the arrive.

In an instant, those days of carrying another life inside you will be in the past. Gone as well is the suffering that accompanies childbirth.

You will behold new life before your own eyes and cradle it in your arms. And you will finally come to believe in love at first sight, though you questioned it so much before.

Your whole world changes when you hear that first cry and look into your child‘s eyes for the first time.
