How Do I Find Out If My Child Is Indigo?

Last update: 08 March, 2018

It’s difficult to tell whether a child is indigo or not. The term has no scientific basis. It’s based on pseudoscientific concepts that started in the early eighties.

Indigo children are believed to posses special qualities – even supernatural traits – caused by intellectual and spiritual evolution.

Not all parents come to wonder whether their child is indigo or not. It’s an idea that hasn’t become popular around the world.

We may have a child that possesses indigo characteristics but we learned to simply deal with them differently. But regardless of whether a child is indigo or not, we have to bring them up with love.

Only those who know about the term can begin to ask themselves whether they have an indigo child in the family. But sometimes people start to see indigo characteristics where there aren’t any.

How Do I Find Out If My Child Is Indigo

How can you tell if a child is indigo?

Not all children that possess indigo traits are actually indigo. Many times their characteristics stem from the way they were raised and the kind of environment they were surround by.

If you suspect that your child could be indigo, you can try to compare if they match these traits in order to find an answer.

Indigo children can be:

  • Intuitive. This characteristic is related to a different brain structure that allows them to perceive things that others don’t.
  • They have great self-confidence. This characteristic usually distinguishes them in a role of arrogance or with a certain air of superiority.
  • They have a highly functioning imagination. They have a high degree of creativity in the things they do. This can cause them to get bored when doing routine activities that don’t give them a chance to let their imagination soar.

  • These children find it hard to follow orders or have affinity towards authority figures. They are independent in their actions and decisions.
  • They have great intelligence and the skills to solve technological problems that may be incomprehensible to adults.
  • Indigo children show signs of being hyperactive children. Signs such as sleeping less and the ability to remain active without resting in between.
  • These children usually don’t like to go to school. This is because they like to be independent. They aren’t good at receiving instructions or following routines.
  • It’s difficult for them to relate to most of their classmates and other children. Maybe since they’re so different it’s hard for them to be empathetic. It’s believed that only two indigos can be great friends.
  • It’s very common that nothing seems to be enough for them, because they don’t conform.
  • They tend to be very frank and ask for extensive explanations about any topic or work with the purpose of properly understanding the requests made to them.
  • Some of them are rebels and only strive to complete the things that interest them.

There is no test to diagnose an indigo child, nor is it necessary, since it’s not a disease or condition that requires special treatment. The only complication that can arise is parents not knowing how to raise them.

However, the main aspect of raising a child has to do with tolerance and love, whether they are indigo or not.

It’s very important to try to nurture their desire to learn. It’s also important to encourage the development of their skills because inappropriate treatment can frustrate them.

They are very sensitive and usually misunderstood by their parents who don’t share the same emotional characteristics.
