A Rainbow Baby Brings Light After Sadness
You may not know what a rainbow baby is, even if you have one close to you. Rainbows appear right after a storm, when the sky is still cloudy and the ground still damp. This is what defines the baby that arrives after a time of suffering.
This child is often described as one who is conceived after another baby has been lost. But in fact this description fits any baby that comes into our lives after a tragedy, a storm.
Just as in nature, the rainbow child does not come to end the crisis, but to transform it.
Rainbows can be explained as the result of solar refraction through water. Although beautiful, they are a natural, meteorological phenomenon.
Rainbow children, on the other hand, arrive unexpectedly, the product of almost divine chance. No parent expects this blessing after the storm.
What is a rainbow baby?
Now that we know about them, we might start to look for rainbows in the wrong places; that is, we might start giving these relationships the wrong title. But it is clear that the comparison makes sense, and it is the emotions that identify them.
A feature that distinguishes these babies is that they arrive immediately after the loss of another.
Generally a rainbow baby is born around the first anniversary of the tragic loss. If more time has passed, the concept does not apply, unless, that is, the storm is still raging.
A child that brings light after the darkness is not always received as such. To be a rainbow baby, a child must cause this effect.
Even though they are common, rainbows never cease to amaze us; this optical phenomenon always makes us smile.
Likewise, bringing hope and peace to those around them is the role of the child that comes into this world at a difficult time.
This baby does not take the pain away. They do not displace a feeling of loss, and they cannot be compared with another child, but they do calm the waters.
The loss of a child is devastating, and can destroy the strongest of us. The most tragic part of this loss is that it takes away hope. Sometimes hope is reborn, and sometimes it is not. Just like the rainbow, which needs special conditions to appear.
The rainbow baby comes into being when their parents stop being afraid of losing them. There should be no distress in these cases. What makes a baby into a rainbow is also what gives relief to parents, letting joy be reborn and hope take hold.
While the storm rages, there is no rainbow. In our analogy, while the pain and tears continue, there is no hope for the parents, who believe they have lost everything. For this kind of baby to come along, the storm must be over.
After sadness, light appears
However strong the storm, calm always returns; that light that gives rise to new hope can take time to arrive, but it comes in the end.
Even when you"re not over the pain, this new being will spark a tumult of emotions, raising expectations that can cause distress and awaken bad memories.
This baby comes along to bring life back into balance, fill darkness with light and color. They become our motivation to learn and reconcile.
We should appreciate every child, but this child in particular is a being filled with positive energy, who will enjoy special care and affection.
We must remember that the rainbow baby is the sibling of the star baby, the one that left us for this one to appear.
The rainbow baby is a mystery of life that has come to steal our hearts and that teach us that we are alive.
