One of the most anticipated and, at the same time, most complicated stages of our childhood is when we stop using our diapers. Getting small children to go to the bathroom by themselves is a huge challenge, but the good news is that there are different types of urinals for babies that’ll help us.

When do we start potty training?

Between two and three years old, children are usually ready to start leaving their diapers. This stage can be very controversial but essential because, in short, it’s a clear sign of growth and maturity.

Nobody said that it’d be easy and accidents are the order of the day, but if we go through this stage with the best possible attitude, it’ll be less traumatic and complicated for everyone.

The potty will be of great help during this time, so it’s necessary to choose one based on its practicality and comfort, not so much on its price or its striking colors.

Basically, it has to fulfill its objective and allow children to feel safe and comfortable while they spend several minutes sitting in the same position.

Potty or toilet adapter?

Before making up our mind, we need to establish which “side” we’re on: whether we prefer that our children use a potty or decide to buy them a toilet adapter. Some parents choose to have both options, depending on the situation.

The advantages of the potty are that it makes children feel more comfortable and safe because they can touch the ground with their feet. Also, it’s what they would use if they go to the nursery, so it may be better to get them started. Don’t forget that routines are essential for children.

Although you have to clean the potty every time the child uses it, the good thing is that it makes children feel more confident, plus it’s something that belongs to them. Later on, we can buy a toilet adaptor and move on to the next stage.

Of course, this means having to teach twice as much, requiring more patience on the part of the parents. But the good thing is that the “basic” process is the same, and it’ll only be a matter of changing scenarios.

What different types of urinals are there for babies?

Today, there are endless possibilities regarding the array of baby products and objects we can buy. The potty is no exception: there are all the colors, sizes, and shapes that you could imagine! We can divide them into four groups:

1. Urinal with music

First off, there are models of urinals that, in addition to having a fun design, offer fun music. Since children don’t usually sit still for a long time, listening to songs can help them focus for at least a few minutes while they’re on the potty.

2. Urinal without music

These “basic” urinals, so to say, don’t have as much technology as the ones with music; but, of course, they’re much more affordable.

This doesn’t mean they’re less comfortable or colorful, but it may require a little more inventiveness on the part of the parents to make their children stay still. For example, you could read them a story.

Between two and three years old, children are usually ready to start leaving their diapers.

3. The three-in-one potty

This is one of the most exciting options due to its adaptability, depending on the situation. It’s made up, as its name implies, of three parts.

The first part is the potty itself, with a container that can be easily removed when it needs to be emptied; another is the adapter for the toilet; while the third holds everything together and can become a seat or bank. It’s a perfect potty for the little one to stand up on and reach the sink.

4. Travel potty

If we ever go on vacation when we’re in full “mission to leave the diaper,” we can use this portable type of potty. Plus, it comes with an adapter for the toilet, it’s foldable, compact, easy to wash, and transport. We can also take it if we visit someone’s house if we don’t want our son to “go back” to using diapers.

Of course, there are more types of urinals for babies, although these four are the most common and widespread. Don’t hesitate to see what else is available and consult options and prices; you’ll see that effort and patience pay off!
