When you take your baby to the beach for the first time, what you really want is for that experience to be relaxing and enjoyable as you share the sun and sand together.

If your child is still very small, it’s difficult to decide whether it’s a good idea to take him, especially because at that age his skin is extremely delicate.

Of course, it’s not against the law to take your baby of under 6 months to the beach. However, it isn’t recommended.

Experts recommend that you wait until he’s at least one year old. The reason for this is that they’re less likely to become dehydrated and get sunburnt, among other things.

It’s much safer to take them when they’ve already started to crawl. On the one hand, they’ll be free to explore the sand, and on the other hand their skin won’t be so vulnerable to the sun’s rays.

Let’s see the following tips and precautions to help you when you take your baby to the beach for the first time:

Your baby should always be protected from the sun

Make sure your baby is always protected from the sun, under a large parasol. We also recommend that you dress them in light clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton.

For babies, physical filters such as hats, t-shirts, parasols and bandanas are the most effective items for protecting their delicate skin from the ultraviolet rays.

Keep your baby well hydrated

Whenever you take your baby to the beach they should be well hydrated. Always take a lot of mineral water with you so they’ll never get dehydrated at any point. That way you’ll be able to enjoy the time without any worries.

To ensure cool water and the food he needs, always carry a small portable cooler or ice bag. That way you can also take some fruit and other healthy food with you.

Life offers you special moments, especially those that involve the beach.

Take care of your skin with protective creams whenever you take your baby to the beach

The ideal way to protect your baby’s skin at the seaside is to choose a sun cream with special protection for babies. It should have a protection factor of more than thirty and be resistant to water.

Make sure to apply the cream all over their body half an hour before exposure to the sun. Keep applying it regularly, after each time they’re in the water, or every 2 hours.

It’s important for you to know that protective sun creams aren’t recommended in babies under 6 months old. The reason being that they can cause irritations and allergies.

Avoid the sun’s rays at certain times

Make sure your baby isn’t exposed to the sun during the hottest part of the day. At this time of the day, the sun’s rays are very harmful.

The best hours to be exposed to the sun are the first few hours in the morning and the last hours of the afternoon.

It’s also important that you pay attention to their body temperature. At such a young age their body can’t regulate their temperature too well, and your baby could suffer sun stroke without you even noticing.

Use baby powder to care for their skin

Talcum powder is the best way to quickly remove any remaining sand on their body. By using baby powder, you won’t need to rub or damage your baby’s skin.

Remember that your little one’s skin is very sensitive. Something as simple as removing the sand from their skin can cause irritations.

Your baby’s first dip in the sea

Before putting them in the sea for the first time, let them stay for a while on the shore. The reason for this is so they can lose any fear they may have, and they can get used to the waves lapping around their feet.

Hold them tightly in your arms and let them approach the water little by little, but only on the shore. Be careful of the waves because they can change from one moment to another.

Let your baby enjoy playing with the water and move him to and fro to the rhythm of the waves.

For his first dip, it’s enough just to make contact with the water and let it cool his feet. As time goes on, you can increase the time in the water to about 10 minutes, but always being aware of his body temperature.

Your baby’s enjoyment is your priority

Make sure the water isn’t too cold. If at any point your baby starts crying, it’s best not to insist he stays in the water. Try again a little later or another day.

Remember that it should be a relaxing and fun experience, so try to prevent him from getting scared and having bad memories of his first time at the beach.

The beach opens up a wealth of games and benefits for your baby as he grows up. It’s just a question of taking the necessary precautions and following them step by step.

If you do, then the first trip with your baby to the beach will truly be an unforgettable experience.
